After many months of hard work, I finally see some results. From the result that I get every end of the month, I know that doing online business is not easy as what it claims. You really need to put in your time and effort in it. But how many of the people will put in their effort and have the persistent in online business. No wonder only 5% of the people will succeed in doing business online. The rest of the people will give up after 3 months when they didn’t see any result from it. Only those with determination and persistent mind will succeed. I learned that online business is not a race, but it is a journey to succeed. During the journey, I might encounter difficulties and failure. But as long as I don’t give up, I will reach the finish line just like the tortoise (The rabbit and the tortoise story).
My goal by the end of 2009 is to be able to earn USD2000 per month.
You can be successful as a jack of all trades, but if you really want to be successful, you might want to look at finding a niche. Clients and customers are fickle creatures. They want expertise, and they’re willing to pay for it in most cases. In fact, it only stands to reason.
For instance, if you were going to have your house rewired, would you rather hire a handy man, or would you rather hire a licensed electrician who works exclusively on homes? The latter, right? That would be the smart choice.
Many large companies, such as Toyota, have an uncanny way of feeling out the market, and finding their niche. Toyota made millions of dollars because they realized that the marketplace needed fuel efficient cars. They figured that out before the other major car makers, and cashed in on that knowledge.
While your home based business might not operate on the same scale as Toyota, the same principles can apply to you. Whatever your business, finding your niche, and sticking to it can streamline your business and put more money in your pocket.
Once you’ve found your niche, you need to market yourself as an expert. This means changing your website or sales brochures to target your niche, and nothing but your niche. You don’t want to confuse your customers by having a whole bunch of unnecessary content on your site that takes away from your niche. Once you’ve managed to build up a reputation as an expert in your field, you can raise your rates accordingly, and build up a client base.
In order to find a niche, just like Toyota, you may have to be innovative. Get a piece of paper and a pencil, and draw up some ideas. Think about what the market needs, and how you can supply it. Think like a customer. How will your product or service help them? Why would they pick you over your competition?
Another thing you could do, is check out your competitors. Ask yourself how you can better what they offer? Visit their site and take it apart piece by piece. Find out why they’re successful, and you’ll go a long way towards improving your own business.
By finding your niche market, you’ll also cut down on your overhead. Think of a big box store. They have everything from electronics to house wares, but what if the electronics sell well, and the house wares don’t? In a way, they’re losing money, right? The burgeoning sales of their electronics are having to make up for the loss they’re sustaining through their house wares. If you only have one product, you never have to worry about that. You only need worry about the sale of whatever your niche is.
Finding your niche may not always be easy, but it’s a wise move if you want to expand your business. People trust an expert with their business far more than they do a jack of all trades.
One of the biggest challenges for people who work at home is scheduling. Let’s face it, working from home gives us all kinds of excuses to not do our work. Sleeping in, cleaning, doing household chores, watching television or just lazing outside in the hammock are just a few of the things that can throw our schedule off and create bad habits.
In order to run a home based business, you have to run it just like any other business. That means creating a schedule that works for you on a daily basis and sticking to it. If you were working from a company’s office, you would be expected to work from 9am-5pm in most cases. If you work at home, this should apply to you as well. You might not have to work by someone else’s rules, but you still have to work.
Perhaps you enjoy working at night. You could put in your hours at night and sleep during the day. That’s the benefit of working from home! You might have to work, but you can do it when you want. Schedule your own break times, lunch hour and stick to it. The important thing is creating a routine. People are creatures of habit, and once you’ve made it a habit to work at a certain hour, it becomes second nature.
If other things pop up, such as a doctor appointment, try not to give in to the urge to make it during your regular working hours. Schedule it as if you were going to a ‘regular’ job, and make it before or after hours.
Creating a calendar is also a good idea. You can do this on your PC or on paper. Mark down appointments and upcoming events. That way you never forget and are always on time. Remember to schedule in a day or two of rest time too. You need to take a break in order to stave off burnout. Nothing will hurt your business as badly as not being able to work for a week because you’ve burned yourself out. Not only that, but you need personal time, and if you have a family, they’ll want time with you too.
Finally, sock away a little bit of pay each week. Pay yourself for vacations. Unlike a ‘regular’ job, there are no scheduled vacation days. You’re responsible for doing that yourself. Make sure you have the cash to take a week or two…or three off from your job.
Working from home has its advantages. You’re in control, but be aware that you still require a scheduled, structured work place in order to function properly. Some people just aren’t organized. It’s not in their nature. If this is the case, you either need to find a new career or learn organizational skills. Whether you learn or give up, again, comes down to how much you’re motivated. Don’t let your organizational skills get in the way of your success.
Working from home may sound like heaven to most people, but it definitely has its challenges. For instance, kids and spouses pose challenges that may cut down on your productivity level. We’re not talking about the rolled up socks that your husband leaves around the house or the way your wife leaves her purse in the middle of the floor, creating a safety hazard every time you walk through the kitchen in the middle of the night. No, we’re talking about creating a work environment that will actually allow you to be productive.
Create a Private Office
Distractions kill productivity. If the kids feel like they can ask you a question every three seconds, when you’re supposed to be working, it can cause some serious problems. You may work at home, but you still need to be able to work.
Wherever you choose to put your office, it should be equipped with a door. This not only helps you to cut out noise, but also allows you to have a physical barrier between you and your work. When you’re not supposed to be working, you can close the door and put that mental and physical barrier between you and your work space.
Scenery
A dingy, half finished basement or a cobweb infested utility room is not a good way to start your day. In fact, it’s not a good environment to get any work done at all. You should feel comfortable in your office. Hang some pictures, paint the walls and add some personal touches to your work space. That way, when you enter your office you will feel good about yourself, which will definitely add to your productivity level.
Absolutely No Television!
Distractions are a big concern for people working from home. You have the comforts of home, and at times you’ll deal with an almost irresistible urge to use those comforts. A good example is the television. Having a television in your office is practically workplace suicide! Every time you glance at the glowing screen, you’re wasting seconds that could be put to better use. Seconds may not sound like a lot, but they add up.
Earplugs or Earphones
For times when the household gets a little crazy, you should consider having a pair of earplugs or earphones close to hand. Both can filter out the noise, and both are relatively inexpensive. Plus, if you have either earplugs or earphones inserted into your ears, your kids or spouse will just assume that you can’t hear which will in turn lead them to choosing to ask you their questions later.
Keep a Clean Work Space
If you don’t feel like working, cleaning a messy work space is the perfect way of procrastinating. If you need to clean, do it when you’re not supposed to be working. If that’s a problem, hire someone to come in and clean your office for you. Never clean your work area when you’re supposed to be working.
Creating a work space that is conductive to productivity is essential if you want to be successful with your home business. Don’t let procrastination and distractions defeat you!
