The operating business from home does not mean that your life is an open book for the world to read. You have to put specific boundaries between your work life and your privacy to ensure that your family is not interrupted by your work. You should establish specific working hours for your business at home and at the end of the day you attack at home. If you let your business consume every moment of awakening of the day, you fry quickly as causing an interruption in your family life.

If you can afford at the beginning of your business, have a separate phone line installed that is strictly for business. Use an answering machine for after hours calls and unless a client or customer leaves a message that this is an emergency, call back the next Business Day. If possible, do not give out your phone number at home because a number of contact. You never know if little Johnny or Susie will answer the phone leaving a bad impression on a potential customer.

There are many services that cross the boundaries between your work life and your privacy and arrangement where they meet will help you keep your health in mind when working from home. When you first start the business, it may be easy for your spouse to ask you to get things done around the house while they are at work. You should gently remind you work and not, you do not have time to finish the dishes, or throw a load of laundry in the washing machine and you certainly do not have time to paint the bathroom.

Using email and telephone to contact the customer is in the best interest for privacy, because you do not want a furious customer frapping on your door while you eat dinner with the family. A mailbox is not over expensive and can be used for most shipping and helps protect the privacy of your family.

Remember, this is your business and you must remember that your spouse and children are not employees. You may be developing a headquarters, but it's always your home and you must ensure to establish defined borders. Just as you did not want junction in your office while you work, you must show the same respect to your family by not allowing the work to cross into their private space.
